Drawings

Index

Each category indexed below is a resonant representation of the bonds between the drawings it collects, expressing the time and place of its creation.

Any drawing dated on the first of January of its respective year indicates that its exact creation date is uncertain and falls somewhere within the year. To avoid confusion, no drawing will be produced on the first of January.

Limbo / Winter 2025 – 2026

Between November 2025 and May 2026, I found myself in a limbo, two dates marking its boundaries: the end of the series of drawings made to be submitted to art schools in Germany and my move to France. During this period, I stepped back from the near-frenetic pace I had kept before, drawing only, as Soutine used to say, “when the miracle happens” — and for 55 times in these months, I was graced by one. The result is a series of drawings that are mostly portraits — among them several self-portraits — of people I have never met, continuing the earlier thread of copying images I came across, intentionally or otherwise.

Technique and format remain unchanged; two attempts on a larger format appear in the final days, while, at the end, the first self-portrait drawn from a mirror makes its appearance.

Portfolio / Schools / 2025

In July of 2025 I got interested in enrolling in German art schools and consequently I started arranging a portfolio to submit for the various applications. Until November of the same year I drew almost every day, in the nights after work and during the weekends: every drawing was made with oil pastels on small pressed cardboard tablets. The subjects represent copies of images that already existed: some come from photographs I took during the years or that friends sent me, but the majority consists of images randomly found on social media platforms – only a few drawings represent subjects that stem from fantasy.

The corpus resulted in 85 drawings, and 32 of those were selected for the final portfolio.

It is possible to browse the entire corpus or only the selected pieces; a PDF version of the portfolio is available for download.

Archetypes / 2024 – 2025

It was in December of 2024 that I started practicing with the medium that would become my medium of choice for many drawings ahead. I thought of oil pastels because of a set of CRAY-PASs that one of my aunts bought me as a child: at the time, my dad told me that they were too difficult to use for a small child like I was, so I gave up on them. When I rediscovered them my idea was to keep the work as cheap and as simple as possible; doing so, I was able to set apart the pretentiousness of the artworks I was seeing and that conditioned my practice. I started drawing on pieces of corrugated cardboard obtained from the lots of shipping boxes I kept over time; this material gave me the lack of formality I needed to focus on drawing with a certain freedom in mind.

All the drawings resulting from this practice, which lasted from December 2024 to June of 2025, involve no references but rather a pure work of fantasy – I rarely had an idea of what to draw when I started, and the resulting pictures reflect the process itself.

Folder / 2023 – 2024

Going through the belongings of my mother, in the summer of 2024, I found a Wörther Shorty mechanical pencil. I remember this mechanical pencil from when I was a child, when I could not quite figure out how to use it since it had no lead, but as soon as I bought the right leads, I started using it right away.

The resulting drawings are human anatomies: when drawing, I first traced the points where I wanted the ligaments to be, then connected them with the bone and flesh structures, resulting in exaggerated and bizarre proportions.

Haphazardness / Before 2023

Records of the drawings I made during the years when I did not yet have a specific artistic pursuit in mind. I had many others that got destroyed in a time when my ideas were confused and those drawings did not resonate with me anymore. Unfortunately, I do not have any digital copies of those drawings, but it is a part of the life of my archive that I have come to terms with.

Missing

A collection of all the drawings I have a digital record of, but that are missing from my physical archive – some were destroyed and some were gifted.
